Yes, Pennsylvania is in play … The Romney campaign jumps all over the Keystone State momentum sending Paul Ryan to Pittsburgh tomorrow. This location is a brilliant choice by the Romney campaign. First, chances are you will get a large turnout because it is a population center. Second, sending Ryan tests the waters with a surrogate rather than the more vital use of the top guy. If things go well and you see poll movement the pump is primed for a push with Romney. Third, the visit is guaranteed to generate plenty of news like any other campaign stop in a major media market. This gets heightened based on the aggressiveness of playing on Obama’s turf. Fourth, Pittsburgh media coverage reaches well into eastern Ohio which is blue Obama country. The obvious boon there cannot be underestimated. Very shrewd on many levels.

The Obama campaign drew over 10,000 today at his Denver rally. The nature of his personality and his incumbent status will likely mean his crowds will almost certainly exceed Romney’s. The key won’t be to beat Obama’s crowd sizes, but to “mind the gap” and show your troops have near equal enthusiasm. The problem for Obama is his core supporters are rabid in their loyalty, but he lacks that softer layer of support that would put him comfortably over 50%. This is why he can draw such amazing crowds but can’t translate that in the polls. Tonight’s rally will be a good test to see how well Romney is closing that gap. For what it’s worth Joe Biden drew 300 in Iowa today…:

We knew the sprint to the finish was coming soon and now it looks like Team Romney is going to override the media matrix openly carrying water for the Obama campaign:
Republican Mitt Romney is planning to begin a more aggressive schedule of traditional campaign events in battleground states, including critical Ohio. A Romney campaign adviser on Wednesday said the GOP nominee will look to increase the tempo of his campaign itinerary so it more closely mirrors the intense schedules of public events that have marked previous presidential contests during the last seven weeks before an election. The adviser spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plans had not yet been announced formally. The campaign is still finalizing events for the weekend and early next week, but it’s planning stops in Colorado and Ohio. The adviser says some days call for three public events a day — a significant increase over Romney’s past schedule.
